Reviewer Frequently Asked Questions
- What does ActionDex do?
ActionDex solves a frequent problem for Photoshop users- organizing and managing hundreds or thousands of
actions so they are easy to find. By using a hierarchy of user-defined categories (much like folders in Windows
Explorer), users can organize their actions into logical task-based groupings to reflect their personal work style. Of course a
picture is worth a thousand words so ActionDex can automatically create a preview image and associate it with an
action. User defined notes, the download location, and a usefulness rating can also be specified for each action.
See the ActionDex Introduction for a full list of features.
- Who can benefit from ActionDex?
Any Windows Photoshop user that frequently uses actions or has a large action collection.
- How does ActionDex work?
ActionDex is an action organizer that works in conjunction with the Photoshop action palette.
In Photoshop the user saves their actions as a text file and then reads them into
ActionDex where links are created to the "real" actions in Photoshop. In ActionDex
the user organizes these links into categories of their choosing, much like organizing URLs
in a web browser's Favorites folder. ActionDex stores additional information about
their actions in a separate file from the actions file used by Photoshop. Actions can be invoked
directly from ActionDex or Photoshop.
The "How ActionDex Works" section of the in-program help has more details.
- Why do you have to export actions from Photoshop and then import them into ActionDex?
This is due to limitations in the Photoshop API... a future version of ActionDex may simplify the resync process so the manual export is not needed. Once a user gets the hang of doing the export (which can be bound to a shortcut key in Photoshop CS), it usually takes only a few seconds to resync.
- Is a mac version available?
Not at this time.
- Does ActionDex include any spyware or adware?
Absolutely not!
